Product Portfolio
  • Advanced Optics

      • Optical Glass

          • High Homogeneity Glass

          • Extremely high homogeneity for large precision optics

The superior quality of an optical material is reflected in its homogeneity and, to be even more specific, in an extremely narrow variation range for the entire piece of glass with respect to refractive index. Therefore, the optical glasses that are used in high-power laser and astronomical applications require extremely high homogeneity.
          • "HT" & "HTultra" Glass

          • Optical glasses with ultra-high transmittance

As part of its extensive portfolio of optical glasses, SCHOTT has been offering special glass variants that are known for their superior transmittance. These special glass types with significantly improved transmittance are identified with the suffix "HT" or "HTultra". They are especially suitable for digital projection and high-end optical systems.
          • i-Line Glass

          • i-Line glass - for applications requiring high uv-transmittance

i-Line glasses are optical glass types named after the i-wavelength, which offer both high UV-transmittance at 365 nm and high refractive index homogeneity. These glass types, such as N-BK7HTi, FK5HTi, LF5HTi and LLF1HTi are available in customized shapes and as a final component.

        • Optical Components

            • Aspherical Lenses

            • ASPHERES FOR SUPERIOR IMAGE QUALITY

Aspherical lenses have a complex surface profile. SCHOTT uses both CNC machining (Computerized Numerical Control) and MRF tooling (Magneto Rheological Finishing) techniques to manufacture these lenses in small and medium-sized quantities or for use in prototypes.

Due to their unique surface structure, aspherical lenses eliminate monochromatic aberrations (e.g. spherical aberrations) and therefore deliver superior overall image quality. They are being used to 2720 multi-spherical element assemblies more and more frequently because this reduces the total weight and enables a more compact design.
            • Cylindrical Lenses

            • WIDE VARIETY OF CUSTOM-MADE LENSES

Cylindrical lenses have a spherical radius in one direction. This enables the light to be focused in one axis. A point of light can thus be stretched into a single line.

Cylindrical lenses can be used in a variety of different applications, including bar code scanning or laser projection, for example.
            • Spherical Lenses

            • LENSES AS SINGLETS, DOUBLETS, TRIPLETS IN DIFFERENT SHAPES

Spherical lenses are used in many different applications to collect, focus and diverge light and are often components of lens systems that perform an achromatic function.

Achromatics consist of two or three elements of different lenses cemented together to limit the effect of spherical and chromatic aberration.
            • Prisms

            • PRISMS AS PERFECT CUSTOM COMPONENTS

Prisms are transparent optical elements with flat polished surfaces that refract, reflect or disperse light. They can be positioned rather easily inside an optical system and offer excellent thermal stability. Total internal reflection is possible to avoid light loss in the optical path.

              Examples of Products:
              • Right-angle prisms
              • Rhomboid prisms
              • Penta prisms
              • TIR prisms

              • Porro prisms
            • Windows & Substrates

            • WINDOWS & SUBSTRATE OF THE HIGHEST PRECISION

Substrates are components (plano-plano parallel polished components, lenses, prisms, filters, etc.) made of different materials that serve as the base to be coated to produce products like beamsplitters, mirrors, and windows, for example.

Windows are transparent, mostly plano-plano parallel polished and/or coated components that are used in optical systems to achieve highly-efficient, distortion-free light and perfect image transmission.

              Examples of Products:
              • Plano parallel windows

              • Optical flats
              • Substrates for microlithography
              • Brewster or elliptical windows
          • Optical Filters

              • Contrast Enhancement Filters

              • GREATER CLARITY & TRUE RENDERING OF COLOR

Contrast enhancement filters allow only certain wavelengths of light from a display device to pass through and filter out irrelevant wavelengths. The displays are thus able to achieve a higher level of contrast. Furthermore, full color displays are capable of reproducing colors more naturally.
              • Optical Interference Filters

              • THERE IS A SOLUTION TO EVERY FILTER REQUIREMENT

Interference filters that use the interference effect to obtain spectral transmission are manufactured by depositing thin layers with different refractive indices onto a substrate.

SCHOTT supplies standard and customized interference filters within the spectral range of 200 nm to 3,000 nm. These products are developed, designed and manufactured according to customer specifications. Interference filters offer excellent climatic resistance and extremely stable spectral characteristics with respect to temperature and humidity changes.

                    • Applications

                        • Astronomy & Space

                        • REACHING FOR THE STAR

Every discovery starts with a cloudless night. To an astronomer, broadening horizons means reaching for the stars.

But if you’re spending your nights stargazing, you're happy for any help you can get. Only one thing’s better than a large telescope aperture: an even larger telescope aperture. Brown dwarves, red giants, black holes, perhaps even extraterrestrial lifeforms – what may have started as a school project today might quickly wind up as an entry in tomorrow’s history books.

                        • THE TAMING OF THE LASE

Set your jewels to get them seen. Or use them for something else, perhaps? Something less showy, but perhaps more useful? Monocrystals. A single crystal, industrially tamed and a kind of Philosopher’s Stone for innovation. The artificial crystals are a fascinating material for electronics. Without them, a lot of development progress could not have taken place at all. Micro-electronics and computer technology simply can’t get enough of them. Microlithography, for example, needs them to produce and process integrated circuits.

The goal is to heal. The next milestone is hope. Or at least quality of life. A good laugh is medicine in itself. But where laughing no longer comes easily, it’s best to turn to science. Pursuing a vision in the medical field requires the preparedness to advance in small steps. Progress in diagnosis, analysis and therapy always needs leaps in technology to change the boundary conditions. Antibody micro-arrays by SCHOTT assist science in the fight against cancer. It took a special coating to pave the way to the ground-breaking fluorescence microscopy capable of identifying biomarkers. Optical filter lenses are also used as substrates for thin-film coatings employed in interference filter production. We have 70 variants available. All of them are reliable helpers in blood testing units, gas chromatographers and waste water and combustion analysers. Along with other thin glasses, the B270® i crown glass with high transmission rate and chemical resistance is available as a glass wafer or substrate. All of them are used to make biochips. Even the longest journey can be made in many small steps.
